Natural and colorful vocal harmonies that only real live brothers can create are the band's trademark. Jim, Joe and Mike Dooley's musical styles include: American folk, 1930's jazz- swing, 50's-60's rock & roll and an assortment of rousing Irish songs and ballads that bring audiences to their feet. Please register. Senior Citizen's Sack Lunch Travel Films On Monday, March 12, we'll tour Ireland and uncover a vibrant tapestry of breathtaking landscapes, warm and friendly people, music and dance. A place where soft rainbows, glittering lakes and heather-clad hills contrast with towering cliffs and rugged coastlines. This program will last 80 min. On Monday, March 26, we'll discover dazzling Costa Rica, the jewel at the heart of Central America, where mist-shrouded peaks loom over fertile valleys, and lush tropical forests touch unspoiled seashore. Our travel programs begin at 11:30 AM in the Borland Room. Patrons planning to attend are encouraged to bring a sack lunch; we'll provide the beverage. This program is designed for our patrons 55 years of age and older. Please register. High School News New Fiction Kit’s Wilderness by David Almond. (A young boy growing up in an old coal mining town learns about his ancestors from his grandfather. His friend Askew then takes him into the mines to look for the childhood ghosts of these long gone ancestors.) (Fiction/ALM/High School) Kit's Wilderness was awarded the Second Michael Printz Award by the American Library Association on January 15, 2001. This new award for teen literature is as prestigious as the Newberry Medal Award for the younger reader. Rosalie Kendall, Head of High School Collection The Prospect Heights Library has recently joined the Library Cable Network (LCN). This exciting new addition to our services enables you to tune to Channel 24 and view programs from neighboring libraries. One of LCN's more popular programs is "What's New In Libraries," which covers, well, what's new in libraries! This month "What's New In Libraries" featured the Prospect Heights, Indian Trails and Skokie Libraries. The main piece being an interview with best selling local author Joan Wester Anderson that was taped in our very own Adult Services Department. We have added this video to our nonfiction collection and it is available for checkout. Just ask at the Adult Reference Desk. Women's History ALIVE! Monday, March 19 at 7:00 PM Sandra R. Hansen will be performing a very moving, one woman play "Civil War Women." In the play Sandra takes excerpts from five women's diaries and autobiographies to show the war through these ordinary, yet extraordinary women. The women are: Linda Brent who was an escaped slave. Harriet Tubman who was an integral part of the Underground Railroad. Emma Edmonds who disguised herself as a man. Dr. Esther Hill Hawks who could not work as a doctor. Sarah Morgan Dawson a Southern lady who lost everything in the war. Sandra spins together the lives of these women to create a unique view of the war in her play "Civil War Women." Please register. Book Club Our book club will meet on Thursday, March 22, at 7:00 PM in the Lusk Room. This month we will be reading Maus by Art Spiegelman. Maus is a graphic novel depicting the experiences of Spiegelman's parents during the Holocaust. Maus won a special Pulitzer Prize for Letters in 1992.
